Paris Design Week and the intelligence of restraint

Restraint is often mistaken for simplicity. It is not. Restraint is the result of countless decisions.
Knowing what deserves attention. Knowing what can remain silent. Knowing when a material should reveal itself, and when it should simply belong.

For Obumex, this intelligence is found in proportion, craftsmanship and permanence. For Basalte, it is found in technology that quietly becomes part of the architecture.

Together, they reflect a shared conviction: the most considered homes are the ones that leave room for living.

From 10 to 14 September, Obumex and Basalte opened the doors of the Obumex Paris boutique for Paris Design Week 2026, presenting “The intelligence of restraint” to visitors from across the international design community.

The installation placed two disciplines side by side: Obumex’s approach to high-end kitchen design in Paris, and Basalte’s home automation systems, designed to serve architecture rather than announce themselves.

Visitors saw how a bespoke kitchen and integrated smart-home technology can share a single visual language. Every switch panel, every material transition, every line of the kitchen island carried the same intent: proportion, craftsmanship and permanence guided each decision.
